Barclays Bank plc

Improving the Mail

Barclays Bank plc is one of the largest financial institutions in the UK and one of the largest shippers of mail in the country. Every day thousands of items are sent to customers or are transferred between the 2,200 locations that make up the Barclays network. While electronic communication is becoming increasingly important, the physical movement of cheques and documents is still an essential part of the Bank’s operations where speed of delivery and reliability are vital.

Barclays renewed its contract with the Royal Mail to provide an internal mail service. As part of a commitment to continuous improvement, Barclays engaged Davies & Robson to work with Barclays and the Royal Mail to review all aspects of the operation. Working with the management and staff of both organisations, Davies & Robson identified opportunities to further improve the operational performance for all parties.

Commenting on the project Shaun Morris, Service Delivery Manager of Barclays, said, “We are very pleased with the outcome of the review which was completed on time and within budget. We have identified a number of new initiatives to assist in our drive for world class performance and are now working closely with the Royal Mail in their delivery”.
