Brett Landscaping
Brett Landscaping build on improving service levels
Brett Landscaping is one of the major UK players in the manufacture and distribution of landscaping and building products. At the beginning of 2008 a new Managing Director, Chris Droogan, was appointed. He immediately initiated a review to improve service, reduce costs and at the same time regenerate sales. A key area identified for improvement was the outsourced delivery operation. Brett engaged Davies & Robson to work with the in-house management team. The objectives were to ensure Brett customers received competitive levels of customer service and the new improved operation was able to better support the business aim of effectively providing goods to their market place.
In order to ensure the best possible outcome, a two pronged approach was taken by Davies & Robson:
Working with the existing contractor to assess, and more closely match, service levels to the market requirements, and to reduce the cost of operations.
Running a rigorous benchmarking exercise for the distribution operation to ensure that the eventual outcome of the review would provide Brett with the most competitive and effective solution for them.
At the outset the Brett Management team, together with Davies & Robson, determined the base requirements for any chosen solution. The effective achievement of these requirements would enhance Brett’s offering. Requirements included the following:
Achievement of service standards set by both Brett and their customers
Operational and cost flexibility to respond to changing business circumstances
A cost effective solution at a lower unit cost
Demonstrate a clear capability to implement the change programme
A commercial offer that incentivised continuous performance improvement
Accurate and timely performance management information
Having formed a clear understanding of the requirement and with a detailed data set, Davies & Robson was able to work successfully with the existing contractor to significantly improve both the operation and the commercial arrangements.
