GlynWebb
Strategy Development
Holding the accolade of being voted the Best Independent Décor Retailer in 2003 and Best Retail Marketing/Advertising Initiative in 2004, GlynWebb is a successful, independently owned, rapidly expanding, retailer of decorating, soft furnishings and general home improvement products.
Davies & Robson was recently commissioned to review GlynWebb’s current warehouse facilities and determine how they could best be developed to meet the future needs of the business. Conclusions from the exercise were used in the strategic decision-making processes throughout the business and specifically addressed the issues of supply chain infrastructure, the primary supply chain and store fulfilment.
Davies & Robson was subsequently commissioned to review the strategy and advise upon a refined plan, taking into consideration the latest sales growth forecasts and the business development plan.
The Strategy Development planning incorporated the following:
Warehouse Scenario Modelling - Detailed warehouse modelling to evaluate a range of warehouse scenarios at various planning horizons.
Site Searches - Green and brown field sites were identified.
Transport Implications - Implications upon primary and secondary transport.
Other Influences - Other factors affecting the decision making process were personnel, change costs and implementation requirements.
Davies & Robson took all the above factors into consideration within an overall business case, which balanced risk and opportunity providing flexibility, whilst also providing operational and commercial efficiency.
The conclusions provided GlynWebb with a progressive supply chain strategy designed to improve store fulfilment and meet the developing needs of the business. Tim Baker, GlynWebb’s Financial Director, sponsored the project and stated: “Davies & Robson provided us with a clear route map. Their approach was pragmatic and the modelling assisted us in the formulation of our business strategy”.
Davies & Robson will, in time, implement the project as GlynWebb’s store ‘roll out’ programme occurs.
