RaceTech provides horse race courses with technical support including closed circuit television which operates through six Outside Broadcast Units based at Raynes Park (three), York (two) and Warwick (one). Around one thousand two hundred meetings at sixty courses are televised annually by RaceTech.
Unit crews are paid expenses for away meetings. These expenses are a substantial element of RaceTech’s operational costs. Davies & Robson was asked to review the method of allocating Units to race meetings and assess optimal Unit locations in order to reduce costs.
We developed a computer model which analysed Unit combinations and cost variations.
It was found by moving a unit to, for example, Hexham and Uttoxeter from York and Raynes Park, annual expense savings of fifteen per cent per unit could be made.
Davies & Robson’s sophisticated modelling skills and structured analysis provided solid justification for re-structuring to reduce costs.
