Efficiency Improvements

The Royal Mail is the UK’s largest distribution company providing a universal postal service to every address in the Country.

To support the range of services, the Royal Mail operates a fleet of some forty thousand vehicles ranging from car-derived vans to tractor units and trailers.

As part of the ongoing drive to improve efficiency and reduce cost Vehicles Services, a division of Royal Mail, has been formed to take responsibility for all aspects of vehicle supply and maintenance.

Davies & Robson has worked closely with Vehicle Services on a range of projects including:

The comparison of internal costs against external benchmarks
The design and implementation of an automated system to manage the administration associated with the acquisition and disposal of some eight thousand vehicles per annum
The development and implementation of a vehicle hire package as part of the Royal Mail’s ‘owner-driver’ scheme
The development and implementation of an automated pricing system
Assistance with the increased use of standard vehicle specifications and advice on acquisition policy
The introduction of a range of formal agreements between Vehicle Services and the operating divisions of the Royal Mail
