Sericol
Supply Chain Healthcheck
Sericol is a global producer of inks for the Screen Printing, Narrow Web Label and Digital Printing industries, with an annual European turnover of £75 million. It is currently estimated that Sericol provides up to seventy percent of UK speciality printing inks.
In order to facilitate growth and continuing profitability, Sericol identified that a key factor in supporting any strategy is effective and efficient supply chain performance. They decided the first task to be completed as part of this review process was a full supply chain ‘Health check’ including, where possible, benchmarking. Davies & Robson were appointed to undertake this review.
This 'Health check' included:
Monitoring efficiency of raw materials and consumables replenishment
Evaluating stockholding levels required at each Customer Service Centre
Examining production scheduling methods and impact on the supply chain
Analysing ability to fulfil customers’ expectations with respect to product availability
Reviewing supply chain costs, particularly additional costs of same day service
Reviewing current supply chain infrastructure and future suitability
Davies & Robson’s approach was to identify and quantify all the relevant structures, processes, locations, capacities and costs currently undertaken and associated with the Supply Chain. A tailored Supply Chain Model enabled a simulation of product flows.
Evaluation of current and alternative stocking policies completed an inventory review. The supply chain costs were compared with industry standards, and differences highlighted. Whilst the current supply chain works well and is flexible, a number of potential areas for cost saving and process improvement were identified. Mr Jamie Moores, Sericol’s European Operations Director said "We found Davies & Robson to be very flexible and supported us extremely well by providing the specialist advice and support we required”.
