Caterparts: Prepares Warehouse For Future Growth

Founded in 1990, Caterparts (owned by Dace Group) was the first company in the UK to provide spare parts and ancilliary products to the professional catering industry.  Caterparts provides spares for glasswashers and dishwashers, ice machines, and other commercial catering equipment, as well as being the principal stockist of spare parts for Maidaid warewashing machines supplied through a sister company. Caterparts has established an unrivalled reputation within the catering industry for both the speed and reliability of its service and the excellence of its technical support.

The Head Office and warehousing facility is located in Brackley, Northamptonshire from which the whole of the UK is served. The business has grown rapidly in recent years despite the challenges of Covid and Brexit, and as a result the warehouse required an overhaul in terms of both process and layout.

Caterparts approached Davies & Robson to undergo a full “root & branch” warehouse review, and requested the following deliverables :-

  • Process map existing working practices and flows
  • Review with whole warehouse team & senior management to agree improvements
  • Formally sign off newly agreed “to be” processes
  • Undertake training sessions to ensure new processes are clearly understood
  • Formally document and sign off all training sessions
  • Create central library of all documented processes with control measures to change

Ultimately, Caterparts wanted increased capacity and greater efficiencies created in the existing warehouse to best support its aggressive future growth plans, and Davies & Robson made a series of recommendations and changes to help support this vision.

“With ambitious plans for growth we understood we needed to optimise our operations and while we had ideas of how we wanted our warehouse to look we had little idea how to make that happen. Davies & Robson have given us the support and knowledge to turn our aspirations into a reality. Through the documentation of the processes, they identified multiple areas for improvement, created a complete process map and trained staff appropriately. We now believe we have all the tools we need to capitalise on the opportunities available to us in the market.”.
