Glen Dimplex Consumer Appliances (GDCA) is part of the Glen Dimplex Group which operates in markets across the world. GDCA owns many well-known household brands including Morphy Richards, Roberts Radio, Stoves, Belling, Britannia and LEC.
GDCA embarked on a comprehensive business transformation programme which included the move to a new target operating model, consolidation and outsourcing of warehousing and distribution operations.
In order to meet a strict deadline, Davies & Robson were invited to run the outsourcing and tender management of the consolidation of GDCA’s distribution operation into one warehouse. Tasks undertaken included:
Modelling the operational requirements
Establishing an accurate outsourcing specification
Identification of possible contractors
Preparation of an Invitation to Tender document
Evaluation of contractor submissions
Preparation of a draft contract
Support with negotiation
With extensive experience in managing outsourcing and tender processes, we worked with GDCA to gain a clear understanding of the current logistics operation and establish data sets as the basis for the new solution.
GDCA appointed XPO as their UK distribution partner. XPO offered a tailored solution to consolidate GDCA’s warehouses into one in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. XPO delivers finished goods to the warehouse from the GDCA factory in Prescot, Merseyside, and provides storage capacity, management of spare parts and raw materials, customer and e-commerce order fulfilment and value-added services, such as the customisation of finished goods.
