A Different Perspective Required...?

A Different Perspective Required...?

Businesses across many sectors are now critically looking at their operation to evaluate whether their existing order fulfilment process is still “fit for purpose” from both a cost and service perspective. Whilst regular, internal reviews are something that should be acknowledged as a good thing, sometimes it requires a fresh, external view to pose alternative solutions and questions and provoke internal debate.

Davies & Robson are currently undertaking a number of these assignments for clients in this area, and these projects are highlighting a number of repeated questions across similar themes :

  • Have I got the correct number of depots and warehouses to service my customers?
  • Are these in the optimum locations and of the correct size?
  • Is the fleet size and mix correct, and have I optimised the finance of this fleet?
  • Do I understand the real cost drivers of the business and are these being reported appropriately and in a user-friendly way?
  • Am I over or under-servicing the customer? Do I understand fully the cost impact of changing certain parameters such as delivery lead-times and frequencies?
  • Do I have IT systems that complement the business, and deliver the operational control and level of reporting that I need?
  • Do I understand the real profit margin by depot or client?

If a review of your organisation’s logistics fulfilment process is now required, and some or all of the above questions appear unclear or unanswered, then it may be time to conduct a full external review with a fresh perspective. Davies & Robson are currently, and have for many years, conducted many of these reviews, so for an informal discussion on how we can help then give D&R a call on 01327 349090
