New Year’s Logistics Resolutions

New Year’s Logistics Resolutions

The last two years have thrown up challenges to the logistics industry like never before, and as we enter a New Year, 2022 does not appear to be easing up on the issues facing the industry.

COVID still dominates the headlines and splits the nation in terms of how to best tackle it, and further mutations cannot be ruled out potentially leading to lockdowns as a result. This will continue to put huge pressure on the economy with certain sectors like hospitality and entertainment in the front line. In addition, driver shortages, inflation, extended supply lead times & port congestion just continue to add to this at a supply-chain level.

So, as is customary this time of year, here are a few resolutions that many in the industry will be making to try and counter these pressures:

  • Strategic Planning & Leadership – Ensure you have a plan, and also a contingency in these uncertain times.
  • Forecasting – It’s more important than ever to plan against a number of Scenarios ranging from Optimistic to Pessimistic.
  • Sustainability – All businesses will need to make changes. Can this be used as a competitive advantage now?
  • Last Mile Logistics – This is increasingly becoming a business differentiator.
  • Omnichannel – We see continued development and growth. Can your business cater for all eventualities?
  • Supply Chains – Recalculation and restructuring of relationships may be needed.
  • Stock Policies – In response to extended lead times, should stock holding be increased, product ranges reduced, and products sourced locally?
  • Automation & IT Infrastructure – Is now the time to make that next investment?
